What Is Rigpa? Tibetan Awareness, Frequency and AO Scan

What does rigpa mean, and how can its teachings about awareness relate to frequency, intention and the AO Scan experience?

In Dzogchen, rigpa refers to the direct recognition of pure or intrinsic awareness beneath conditioned thoughts and reactions. AO Scan does not create or measure rigpa. However, its frequency-based tools may support self-awareness, intentional focus and practices that help users move toward greater balance and coherence.

What Is Rigpa? Tibetan Awareness, Frequency and AO Scan

Every once in a while, I hear something that stops me in my tracks.

Recently, it was a conversation about rigpa—a Tibetan term at the heart of the Dzogchen tradition.

The speaker described the mind as though it were a radio.

Something happens around you. A song plays. Someone says a familiar phrase. A smell enters the room. Suddenly, the dial turns.

Before you realize what happened, you are no longer fully present.

You are inside an old memory.

Perhaps you are replaying a past betrayal. Maybe your body is remembering a stressful event. Or, without consciously choosing it, you have slipped into an emotional frequency you have visited many times before.

That metaphor immediately made me think about AO Scan.

However, the true meaning of rigpa goes even deeper.

AO Answer: What Is Rigpa?

In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition of Dzogchen, rigpa refers to the direct recognition of pure or intrinsic awareness.

It is not simply concentration.

It is not an emotion.

Nor is it positive thinking.

Instead, rigpa points toward the clear awareness that is present before we become tangled in our thoughts, stories, memories and reactions.

Dzogchen is often translated as Great Perfection or Great Completeness. Its teaching is not that we must manufacture a perfect mind. Rather, it points toward recognizing a deeper nature of awareness that is already present but frequently obscured by confusion and conditioned thinking.

Is Rigpa Really a Radio Dial?

The radio analogy is fascinating, but it is a modern metaphor rather than a literal Dzogchen definition.

A radio dial moves from one station to another.

Likewise, human attention can move rapidly between memories, emotions, sensations and expectations.

One moment, you feel calm.

Then, a phrase reminds you of an argument from ten years ago.

Suddenly, the old emotional program is playing again.

The station changed.

Yet you may not remember turning the dial.

That is where the metaphor becomes useful.

When attention is unconscious, the external world often chooses the station for us.

A notification changes our mood.

Someone’s expression creates a story in our mind.

A familiar song brings back an entire season of life.

Even more subtly, a thought may seem to arrive from nowhere because an internal association has activated outside our conscious attention.

Rigpa, however, is not the station.

It is closer to the awareness that recognizes the radio, the stations and the movement of the dial.

Rigpa and the Ordinary Thinking Mind

Dzogchen teachings make an important distinction between rigpa and the ordinary conditioned mind.

The ordinary mind reacts.

It labels.

It compares.

It remembers.

It anticipates.

It builds stories around every experience.

Rigpa is described as the awareness capable of recognizing those activities without being completely captured by them. In Dzogchen language, this pure awareness is understood as naturally clear and unstained by the temporary mental obscurations passing through it.

Imagine the sky.

Clouds may appear dark, heavy or chaotic. Nevertheless, the sky itself is not permanently damaged by the weather moving through it.

In the same way, thoughts and emotions move through awareness.

We usually identify with the clouds.

Rigpa points toward recognizing the sky.

Everything Has a Signature

The Instagram discussion also made a sweeping statement:

Everything has an energetic signature.

There is something deeply compelling about that idea.

Every physical object has measurable characteristics.

It has structure, mass, temperature, motion and material composition. Depending on the object, we may also measure electrical activity, acoustic vibration, light, magnetic behavior or molecular movement.

At the same time, spiritual and wellness traditions use the phrase energetic signature more broadly.

A room can feel peaceful.

A memory can feel heavy.

One person enters a gathering and the entire atmosphere changes.

A piece of music can alter your state within seconds.

A treasured object may carry years of emotional association.

These experiences are not all the same kind of scientific measurement. Still, they remind us that human beings continuously respond to patterns, signals, environments and meanings.

We are always receiving information.

The deeper question is:

Are we choosing what we repeatedly attune ourselves to?

Where AO Scan Enters the Conversation

AO Scan is not a Tibetan Buddhist practice.

It does not measure enlightenment, identify rigpa or replace meditation.

The connection is more practical.

AO Scan gives users modern tools for noticing patterns, engaging with sound and frequency, setting intentions and becoming more deliberate about the information they repeatedly introduce into their daily lives.

Official Solex descriptions explain that AO Scan includes frequency-based wellness reports, voice-pattern analysis, personalized audio tones, affirmation tools and SEFI broadcasting and imprinting options.

In other words, the technology invites participation.

You are not simply receiving information unconsciously.

You are observing.

You are selecting.

You are listening.

You are imprinting.

You are broadcasting.

Most importantly, you are becoming more intentional about the patterns you reinforce.

A More Accurate Way to Connect Rigpa and AO Scan

At first, I wanted to say that AO Scan helps “home rigpa” toward homeostasis.

However, I would refine that language.

Rigpa itself does not need to be repaired, strengthened or tuned within the Dzogchen teaching. It is described as the pure awareness that is already present.

What becomes disrupted is our recognition of it.

Therefore, a more accurate connection would be:

AO Scan may help us home our attention, language, environment and repeated inputs toward greater coherence—making it easier to notice the difference between automatic reactivity and intentional awareness.

That is a powerful distinction.

AO Scan is not creating awareness.

Instead, it may provide tools that help us pay closer attention to what surrounds, influences, and repeatedly conditions the mind and body.

Inner Voice: Listening to the Pattern Inside the Voice

Inner Voice may be one of the clearest connections.

Your voice carries more than words.

It carries rhythm.

It carries tone.

It carries emphasis, hesitation, intensity and emotion.

According to Solex, Inner Voice analyzes tonal patterns across the voice spectrum and provides personalized audio tones intended to support emotional awareness and energetic balance.

That does not mean your voice defines who you are.

Instead, it may offer a momentary reflection of how you are expressing yourself now.

Think of it as a mirror.

The mirror is not the person.

It simply gives the person another way to look.

Then, rather than remaining unconsciously tuned to the same emotional station, you can pause and listen differently.

Frequency Optimizations: Choosing a New Input

Several AO Scan modules provide personalized frequency-based audio options.

The purpose is not to erase who you are.

It is to introduce another signal.

For example, imagine that your nervous system has been repeating the same stress pattern all day.

The phone rings.

The inbox fills.

Your mind races.

Your shoulders tighten.

One event leads into the next until that state feels normal.

A frequency optimization creates a deliberate interruption.

Suddenly, instead of remaining completely absorbed in the old pattern, you have chosen to stop, listen and engage with a different input.

That small moment of choice matters.

The unconscious dial becomes a little more conscious.

SEFI: What Are You Broadcasting?

SEFI stands for Subtle Energy Frequency Imprinter.

Within the AO Scan wellness framework, SEFI allows users to select frequency-based programs and either broadcast them or imprint them into appropriate objects used in personal intention and mindfulness routines.

Whether you use:

  • Quantum Reach
  • Quantum Frequency
  • Quantum Affirmations
  • Quantum Flowers
  • Quantum Chakras
  • Homeopathic-inspired frequencies
  • Custom playlists
  • Personal frequency selections

the central act is intentional.

You decide what you want to work with.

You choose what you wish to place into your environment.

You become more conscious of the signal you are repeatedly reinforcing.

That leads to one of my favorite questions:

What are you broadcasting—even when you do not realize you are broadcasting it?

AO MindSync: Directing the Language of the Mind

AO MindSync uses your recorded voice, along with affirmations and binaural audio, to create a personalized self-development and mindfulness experience.

I would not describe this as literally rearranging the brain.

However, it does give us a structured way to examine and reshape the language we repeatedly rehearse.

That distinction is important.

Many people unknowingly practice negative affirmations all day.

“I am overwhelmed.”

“I can never catch up.”

“Nothing works for me.”

“I always make the wrong decision.”

Those are affirmations, too.

They simply were not chosen consciously.

MindSync allows you to interrupt that process.

Now, the voice delivering the message is your own.

The intention is yours.

The words are yours.

Once again, you are directing the dial instead of leaving it unattended.

Rigpa Is Not the Same as Homeostasis

Rigpa and homeostasis come from entirely different systems.

Rigpa belongs to a contemplative teaching about recognizing the nature of awareness.

Homeostasis describes the body’s ongoing regulation of internal conditions.

Still, the concepts meet in an interesting place.

Both invite us to notice when we have moved away from center.

The body continually adjusts.

Awareness continually notices.

When we become more conscious of our patterns, we can make choices that support greater steadiness.

Therefore, I see AO Scan as part of a larger practice of listening.

What is my body expressing?

What is my voice expressing?

What am I repeatedly thinking?

What am I introducing into my environment?

What am I broadcasting?

What state am I practicing every day?

The Ancient Wisdom Is Still Relevant

Tibetan contemplative teachings have endured because the problem they address is timeless.

Human beings become lost in thought.

We replay the past.

We anticipate the future.

We react to signals without knowing why.

Then, somewhere inside all that noise, we forget the awareness that is noticing the experience.

Modern life has only multiplied the signals.

Our minds are filled with open tabs.

Phones, news, emails, relationships, memories and responsibilities compete for the same attention.

As a result, the ability to choose where awareness rests may be more important than ever.

A Small Note About Tibetan Tea

One reason I am fascinated by Tibetan traditions is the way profound teachings often sit beside simple, grounding rituals.

And yes, I am also fascinated by the tea.

Traditional Tibetan butter tea—often called po cha or su cha—is made by combining strong tea with butter and salt. Historically, compressed tea bricks were practical for transport into the Tibetan plateau.

Pu-erh is a fermented or aged tea traditionally associated with Yunnan, China. It is sometimes used in Tibetan-style butter tea, although not every traditional Tibetan tea is technically pu-erh. Other compressed dark teas have also traveled along the historic tea routes into Tibet.

There is something wonderful about that image.

A monk studies the nature of mind while drinking a warm, earthy tea that has transformed over time.

Awareness and ritual.

Stillness and nourishment.

The profound and the practical, together.

A Simple “Direct the Dial” Practice

Here is one way to bring the idea into your day.

1. Pause

Before opening another app or reacting to the next demand, stop for a moment.

2. Notice the station

Ask:

What am I feeling?

What thought keeps repeating?

What memory or expectation is influencing me?

3. Recognize the awareness

Instead of immediately trying to change the thought, notice that there is an awareness capable of observing it.

You are not only the thought.

You are also the one who notices the thought.

4. Choose an intentional input

This could be:

  • An Inner Voice audio
  • A frequency optimization
  • A SEFI playlist
  • A MindSync affirmation
  • Several quiet breaths
  • A walk outside
  • A moment with no phone
  • A cup of tea and complete attention

5. Observe again

Did the internal station change?

Did your breathing shift?

Did the thought lose some of its grip?

Did you become more present?

That is where the practice begins.

My Perspective on Rigpa and AO Scan

“Rigpa reminds me that beneath all the noise, reaction and mental chatter, there is an awareness capable of recognizing what is happening. AO Scan gives us modern ways to listen, reflect and become more intentional about the patterns we reinforce. The technology does not tell us who we are. It helps us notice what we may be broadcasting—and what we would rather choose.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What does rigpa mean?

In Dzogchen, rigpa refers to the direct recognition of pure or intrinsic awareness—the clear knowing of the natural state of mind beneath conditioned thought and confusion.

Is rigpa an emotion or energetic frequency?

Not in the traditional Dzogchen definition. Emotional frequency and radio-dial language can be useful modern metaphors, but rigpa is the awareness that recognizes thoughts, sensations and emotions rather than another emotional state among them.

Can AO Scan measure rigpa?

No. Rigpa is a contemplative concept and direct recognition within Dzogchen practice. AO Scan provides frequency-based wellness information, audio tools and intention-setting features that may support reflection and self-awareness.

How does Inner Voice relate to awareness?

Inner Voice analyzes patterns within a short voice recording and provides personalized audio tones. Many users incorporate those tones into mindfulness and self-awareness routines.

How does AO MindSync support intentional thinking?

MindSync combines affirmations recorded in your own voice with music and binaural audio. It gives users a structured way to practice chosen language and personal intentions.

What is the relationship between frequency and consciousness?

Frequency has precise meanings in physics, including cycles per second. In wellness and spiritual conversations, the word is also used metaphorically to describe emotional tone, atmosphere or quality of experience. Those meanings can inform one another, but they should not automatically be treated as identical measurements.
