What are common headache and migraine triggers?

Headache and migraine triggers may include dehydration, skipped meals, stress, hormonal changes, disrupted sleep, certain foods, environmental exposure and sensory stimulation. Nadya Lutz recommends tracking personal patterns because several contributing factors may overlap. AO Scan may add non-diagnostic educational information that helps users ask more informed wellness questions.
Nadya Lutz discussing headache and migraine triggers during the July 29, 2026 Solex Weekly Update recap by AO Scan Global

A headache may feel as though it begins in one precise place, but the reason behind it may involve something much bigger.

Dehydration. Interrupted sleep. Stress. Hormonal changes. Skipped meals. Food sensitivities. Sinus pressure. Environmental exposure. Jaw tension. Digestion. Emotional overload.

Sometimes one factor stands out. Other times, se+6veral small factors appear to build upon one another until the body demands our attention.

During the July 29, 2026 Solex Weekly Update, traditional naturopath, Solex educator and Day of Discovery presenter Nadya Lutz offered a thoughtful look at headache and migraine triggers. Her central message was not to assume that every headache has the same explanation—or that the location of the discomfort automatically tells us why it is happening.

Instead, Nadya encouraged listeners to remain curious, ask better questions and follow the clues.

“It’s super important just to keep diving, keep digging, keep uncovering things.”

That philosophy shaped the entire conversation.

First, the July Solex Announcements

Before the educational segment began, the Solex hosts shared several important end-of-month announcements.

At the time of the call, only two days remained in the July promotion offering a complimentary Quantum Living Advocate—or QLA—upgrade with a qualifying enrollment order.

A QLA is an independent Solex advocate who may share Solex products with others and earn compensation when eligible purchases are made through their business. Anyone considering the promotion should confirm the current qualifications, terms and availability through their Solex back office or sponsoring QLA.

The limited-edition Chocolate Brownie AO Youth and Vanilla Caramel AO Youth flavors were also available through July 31, 2026. The hosts noted that Solex had not announced when these seasonal flavors might return.

Solex leaders were also reminded to export and save their monthly reports from the back office before the month closed. This allows leaders to retain the information they may want to review after the reporting period changes.

Day of Discovery Is Getting Close

The hosts continued building excitement for Day of Discovery 2026, Solex Global’s major in-person education and community event.

The event offers more than company announcements. It provides an opportunity for people who often work independently with their clients, teams and families to step away from their daily routines and connect with the wider Solex community.

Past attendees described:

  • Meeting people who became close friends and trusted advisors
  • Learning from educators and guest presenters
  • Experiencing Solex technologies and products in person
  • Hearing new product and AO Scan announcements
  • Leaving with renewed energy and practical ideas
  • Connecting with people who share an interest in wellness, frequency and personal growth

The hosts emphasized that some of the newest education presented at the 2026 event will remain exclusive to the live experience rather than being replayed later during a weekly call.

They also announced event-purchase incentives that included a $50 Solex Store coupon for qualifying ticket holders and an additional $10 coupon for each personally enrolled attendee associated with a sponsor’s account. Those coupons were described as being redeemable at the event and combinable with the event’s store discount. Current availability and qualifications should be verified through Solex because event promotions may change.

Meet Nadya Lutz

The featured educational conversation introduced listeners to Nadya Lutz, a traditional naturopath, Solex educator and presenter with the Solex University School of Naturopathy.

Nadya is known for approaching wellness questions from multiple directions. Instead of immediately attempting to quiet a symptom, she begins by asking what else may have been occurring before the symptom appeared.

When someone mentions a recurring headache, her questions may include:

  • Are you adequately hydrated?
  • Have you been sleeping well?
  • Has your stress level changed?
  • Did you skip a meal?
  • Could a particular food be involved?
  • Does the pattern coincide with hormonal changes?
  • Are you experiencing sinus congestion or seasonal allergies?
  • Have you recently entered a damp or mold-affected environment?
  • Are fragrances, cleaning products or other environmental exposures involved?
  • Is there tension in the jaw, neck or shoulders?
  • Have digestive patterns changed?

Nadya did not present these questions as a rigid checklist. She explained that she listens to each answer and then follows the thread.

A person who repeatedly forgets to drink water, for example, may also be moving through a demanding season of stress. That stress may be disrupting sleep, changing eating patterns or contributing to jaw tension. One answer leads naturally to the next question.

This is not about guessing. It is about becoming more observant.

Common Headache and Migraine Triggers

Headaches and migraines are not identical, and not everyone responds to the same potential triggers. Still, the conversation highlighted several categories worth observing.

Hydration

Hydration was one of Nadya’s first considerations.

A busy person may believe they drink enough water while repeatedly leaving a full cup on the counter or realizing late in the day that they have barely taken a sip.

The goal is not to assume that every headache is caused by dehydration. It is to notice whether hydration may be one part of a larger, recurring pattern.

Questions to consider include:

  • How much have I actually had to drink today?
  • Have I been exercising or spending time in heat?
  • Have I consumed more caffeine than usual?
  • Have I eaten enough?
  • Did the headache develop after a long stretch without fluids?

Food and Irregular Meals

Nadya also encouraged people to consider what they ate—and whether they ate at all.

Individual food responses vary. A person may notice a pattern around a specific food, an ingredient, excess sugar, caffeine withdrawal or simply going too long without eating.

Rather than eliminating an enormous list of foods based on one headache, begin by documenting what happened. Patterns become more meaningful when they repeat.

*My personal headache hack is a glass of water with Solex Gold trace minerals and a quick meditation on my AO Infinity PEMP mat.

Sleep and Stress

Sleep and stress often travel together.

A demanding schedule may lead someone to stay up too late, sleep poorly, forget to eat, drink less water and carry more tension through the neck, shoulders or jaw.

The headache may be the most obvious signal, while the larger pattern began much earlier.

Hormonal Patterns

Nadya noted that recurring headaches and migraines may sometimes follow a hormonal rhythm.

When a person notices that symptoms appear at a similar time each month—or alongside other predictable changes—it may be helpful to document the timing and discuss the pattern with a qualified healthcare professional.

The important lesson is consistency: a recurring timeline can be a clue.

Sinuses, Allergies and the Environment

Sinus pressure, seasonal allergies, odors and environmental exposures may also be worth tracking.

Nadya used mold as one example of a possible environmental consideration. A person may feel fine at home but repeatedly notice discomfort in a particular building, season or setting.

Again, one occurrence does not prove causation. Repetition is what makes the observation useful.

Jaw, Neck and Shoulder Tension

Pain felt in the head may sometimes occur alongside tension elsewhere.

Jaw clenching during sleep, extended computer work, posture and muscle tension may all be relevant questions—especially when the sensation moves between the temples, jaw, neck and shoulders.

Nadya repeatedly returned to body awareness: where else do you feel something, and what happened before it moved?

When Several Triggers Combine

One of the strongest lessons in the call was the idea of a compound effect.

Nadya described a hypothetical sequence in which a person is already dehydrated, eats something during allergy season and then enters a building with an environmental irritant. No individual factor may tell the whole story, but several influences may accumulate.

Think of the body as having an individual threshold.

On one day, a less-than-perfect night of sleep may not lead to a headache. On another day, poor sleep may combine with dehydration, skipped meals, intense stress and bright light. The total load may be more important than any one factor.

This is why a simple question such as “What caused my headache?” can be difficult to answer.

A better set of questions may be:

  • What was different during the previous 24 hours?
  • Which patterns occurred together?
  • Was I already under physical or emotional stress?
  • Did I notice an early warning signal?
  • Has this combination happened before?

Nadya’s approach is not about becoming fearful of every food, feeling or environment. It is about noticing combinations.

Do Not Ignore the Early Clues

Many people who experience migraines recognize that something is changing before the pain becomes intense.

That early warning may include:

  • Changes in vision
  • Increased sensitivity to light or sound
  • A particular sensation in the head
  • Fatigue
  • Neck tension
  • Changes in mood or concentration
  • Nausea
  • A growing need to withdraw from stimulation

Nadya encouraged people to pay attention to those early clues rather than waiting until the experience is fully established.

This does not mean that every migraine can or should be self-managed. New, severe, unusual or changing neurological symptoms require appropriate medical evaluation.

It does mean that knowing your established pattern can help you communicate more clearly with your healthcare provider and make timely decisions within the care plan you have developed together.

Start a Headache or Migraine Journal

Nadya’s most immediately practical recommendation was to keep a journal.

A useful headache or migraine journal does not need to be complicated. Record enough information to reveal what was happening around the episode.

Consider tracking:

Before the Headache

  • Date and approximate time
  • Food and drinks
  • Water intake
  • Caffeine
  • Sleep quality
  • Stress level
  • Menstrual or hormonal timing when relevant
  • Exercise
  • Weather or seasonal changes
  • Time spent around fragrances, smoke, cleaning products or other exposures
  • Screen time
  • Jaw, neck or shoulder tension
  • Digestive changes

During the Headache

  • Where the discomfort began
  • Whether it moved
  • Intensity
  • Sensitivity to light, sound or smells
  • Nausea or visual changes
  • Other sensations in the body
  • What you tried
  • Whether anything appeared to help

Afterward

  • How long it lasted
  • What changed before it eased
  • Whether the same combination has happened before
  • Questions to bring to a healthcare professional

The journal is not intended to make someone obsess over every variable. Its purpose is to replace vague memory with usable information.

Instead of saying, “I get headaches all the time,” a person may eventually be able to say:

“Most of my headaches happen after short sleep, very little water and a delayed lunch.”

That is a much more productive place from which to begin asking questions.

Look for Repetition, Not One Isolated Result

One headache after eating a particular food does not necessarily mean that food was responsible.

One difficult day in a specific building does not prove an environmental exposure.

One unusual AO Scan result does not provide a diagnosis.

The value comes from looking across time.

Does the same food category appear repeatedly? Does the headache usually follow a stressful workday? Does it occur during a particular point in the month? Does jaw tension show up again and again? Are hydration and sleep commonly low at the same time?

Patterns become meaningful when several forms of information begin pointing in the same direction.

That is also where AO Scan entered Nadya’s conversation—not as a replacement for medical evaluation, but as another educational source of information that may help someone notice patterns and ask better questions.

How Nadya Uses AO Scan to Explore Patterns

When Nadya discussed using AO Scan, she did not describe a single report or reading that automatically reveals why someone has a headache.

Instead, she described AO Scan as one more source of educational information that can help her look at the body differently, notice repeated patterns and determine which questions may be worth asking next.

For someone unfamiliar with the technology, AO Scan is a non-invasive frequency-based wellness system. It compares energetic information gathered during a scan with extensive frequency databases and generates educational reports that users can review over time.

It is important to understand the distinction:

AO Scan does not diagnose a migraine, identify a medical disease or determine the clinical cause of a headache.

What it may do is highlight educational frequency patterns that encourage a person or practitioner to investigate an area more thoughtfully.

For example, Nadya said she may observe patterns associated with:

  • Foods and food categories
  • Amino acids
  • Digestion
  • Nutritional and mineral considerations
  • Jaw, neck or shoulder tension
  • Emotional expression
  • Repeated findings across several scans

One red or out-of-range result should not be treated as a diagnosis. Nadya emphasized looking at findings over time and then comparing them with the person’s real-life experience.

If an entire food category repeatedly appears in the reports, she may ask whether the person regularly consumes it and whether symptoms seem to follow.

If digestion-related patterns repeatedly appear, she may ask questions about regularity, appetite, food tolerance and nutrient absorption.

If a person reports nighttime jaw clenching while tension continues to appear around the jaw, neck and shoulders, that may provide another thread to follow.

The process is not:

“The scan says this, so this must be the cause.”

It is:

“This pattern appeared again. Does it connect with anything you have been experiencing?”

That difference is essential.

Scan, Observe, Ask and Reassess

AO Scan users have the ability to scan repeatedly rather than placing all their confidence in one isolated result.

This creates an opportunity to compare:

  • What appeared before a wellness change
  • What continues to repeat
  • What no longer appears as strongly
  • What the person reports feeling
  • What was happening in the person’s environment
  • Which questions still need to be explored

A scan should not replace a person’s lived experience, medical history, laboratory testing or relationship with a qualified healthcare professional.

It can become another piece of educational information within the larger picture.

This is one reason I frequently remind AO Scan users to avoid becoming alarmed by a single color, number or frequency pattern. The purpose is not to chase every result.

The purpose is to look for meaningful repetition.

Inner Voice and Emotional Awareness

The conversation also turned to AO Scan Inner Voice, one of the technology’s most popular modules.

Inner Voice analyzes characteristics within a brief voice recording and generates an educational emotional-frequency report. It also creates personalized balancing tones that the user can listen to.

Nadya discussed emotions because physical discomfort does not occur in a vacuum. Stress, grief, anger, fear, overwhelm and prolonged emotional strain may affect sleep, appetite, muscle tension, hydration habits and the way a person responds to discomfort.

That does not mean a headache is imaginary or that an emotional pattern is automatically its cause.

It means emotional wellness deserves a place in the broader conversation.

A person experiencing considerable stress may also:

  • Clench their jaw
  • Tighten their shoulders
  • Sleep poorly
  • Skip meals
  • Forget to drink water
  • Increase caffeine intake
  • Spend less time moving or outside
  • Become more sensitive to ordinary stimulation

Those secondary effects may overlap with an established headache or migraine pattern.

Nadya described Inner Voice as one of her preferred tools for helping people become more aware of their emotional state. Her comments reflected her professional observations and personal experience; they should not be interpreted as proof that Inner Voice treats a neurological condition.

Frequency Cleanse

Nadya also mentioned Frequency Cleanse, a newer AO Scan feature at the time of this call.

Frequency Cleanse provides selectable sound experiences, including different types of color noise and energetic-focus options. During the discussion, Nadya and the hosts spoke positively about brown noise and the Crown selection.

These options may be used as part of a personal relaxation or frequency-wellness routine. Individual responses vary, and the experience should not be presented as a treatment for migraine or any other medical condition.

Someone living with frequent or severe headaches should continue working with their medical provider even when they also choose to use sound, meditation, breathing, frequencies or other complementary wellness practices.

SEFI and the Additional Wellness Tools Discussed

Nadya’s approach is highly individualized, so the call included several complementary tools she may consider within her practice.

These included:

  • SEFI frequencies
  • Imprinted SEFIdots
  • Frequency Erase and Imprint options
  • Essential oils
  • Flower essences
  • Homeopathic preparations
  • Red-light wellness tools
  • Terahertz and Infinity wands
  • Grounding
  • Rest
  • Hydration
  • Dietary awareness
  • Time in nature

Nadya also described asking a person where they feel a sensation and then continuing to observe as that sensation changes or appears elsewhere.

For example, someone may initially notice tension around a temple and then become aware of discomfort in the jaw, neck or shoulder. That observation may lead to new questions about posture, jaw clenching, sleep or muscle tension.

This was one of the call’s most interesting themes: do not look only at the place that hurts.

The location of discomfort matters, but it may be only one point in a much larger pattern.

None of the wellness tools discussed should be portrayed as universally effective or as substitutes for appropriate medical treatment. They were shared as examples from Nadya’s personal and professional wellness practice.

Migraine Is More Than a Lifestyle Mistake

There is also an important layer of compassion that belongs in this conversation.

Migraine is a neurological disease—not evidence that someone failed to hydrate perfectly, eat perfectly, think positively or manage every possible trigger.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, migraine involves abnormal activity among nerve signals, chemical signals and blood vessels in the brain. Potential triggers vary considerably and may include hormonal changes, skipped meals, sleep disruption, stress, environmental changes, strong smells, bright lights and other factors.

Some people discover clear patterns. Others do not.

A migraine attack may also occur without an obvious avoidable trigger. Tracking should increase understanding—not guilt, fear or self-blame.

The goal is to create better information for the individual and their healthcare team.

Keep Digging Without Dismissing Medical Care

Nadya’s personal experience with neuro-Lyme influenced one of the most powerful messages of the call.

She encouraged people not to resign themselves to the belief that nothing more can be explored.

“Keep diving, keep digging, keep uncovering things.”

That does not mean endlessly chasing explanations or assuming every difficult symptom has a simple solution.

It means staying curious.

It may mean seeking another qualified opinion, documenting a pattern more carefully, improving basic wellness habits, asking whether something in the environment changed or revisiting a concern when the symptom itself changes.

Most importantly, it means knowing when curiosity must become medical action.

When a Headache Needs Immediate Medical Attention

Most headaches are not medical emergencies. However, some headache symptoms require prompt or emergency evaluation.

Call 911 or seek emergency care for:

  • A headache that begins suddenly and explosively
  • The first severe headache of your life
  • A “worst-ever” headache
  • A headache with new weakness, numbness or difficulty moving
  • Slurred speech
  • New confusion or memory loss
  • Loss of balance
  • A new or unusual change in vision
  • Fever with a stiff neck
  • A severe headache following a head injury
  • A headache that rapidly worsens
  • A severe headache involving one red, painful eye

A new headache pattern, a major change in frequency or intensity, or headaches that regularly disrupt daily life should also be discussed with a healthcare professional.

Do not use AO Scan, frequency tools, supplements, essential oils or other wellness products to delay emergency evaluation.

What Should You Record in a Migraine Journal?

A headache journal can help a healthcare provider understand when symptoms occur, how intense they are, what happened beforehand and which accompanying symptoms appeared. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke specifically identifies headache journaling as a useful tool for migraine evaluation and treatment planning.

Track enough information to reveal trends without turning the process into a stressful full-time job.

A simple entry might look like this:

Date and time: July 29 at 3:00 p.m.
Intensity: 6 out of 10
Location: Right temple and behind right eye
Sleep: Five hours
Food: Breakfast skipped; lunch at 2:00 p.m.
Water: Approximately two glasses
Stress: High
Other symptoms: Light sensitivity and nausea
Environment: Several hours at a bright computer screen
What helped: Followed established care plan and rested in a dark room
Question for provider: Could timing or medication options be adjusted?

The American Migraine Foundation also cautions that not every suspected trigger is truly causal. Tracking over time and reviewing the record with a qualified professional can help distinguish a recurring pattern from coincidence.

The Larger Lesson from Nadya Lutz

The most valuable takeaway from Nadya’s teaching was not a specific product, frequency or wellness technique.

It was a way of thinking:

  1. Listen to the body’s signals.
  2. Ask what happened before the symptom began.
  3. Look for factors that may be overlapping.
  4. Write down what repeats.
  5. Compare the person’s experience with educational information.
  6. Seek appropriate medical guidance.
  7. Reassess rather than assuming the first explanation must be correct.

A headache may involve hydration, sleep, food, hormones, tension, stress or the environment.

It may involve several of those factors.

It may also be part of a neurological condition requiring medical treatment.

Responsible wellness education leaves room for all of those possibilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are common headache and migraine triggers?

Possible triggers may include disrupted sleep, skipped meals, hormonal changes, stress, bright or flashing lights, strong smells, weather or environmental changes and certain medications or substances. Triggers vary substantially between individuals, and not every migraine attack has an identifiable trigger.

Can several migraine triggers combine?

Several factors may overlap around the same attack. For example, poor sleep, stress, delayed meals and a familiar environmental exposure may occur together. A journal can help identify combinations that repeat, but an apparent association does not automatically establish causation.

Why should I keep a headache journal?

A journal provides concrete information about frequency, timing, intensity, accompanying symptoms and what happened before an attack. This can help a healthcare provider evaluate the pattern and develop or adjust a treatment plan.

Can AO Scan diagnose the cause of a headache?

No. AO Scan is an educational, non-diagnostic frequency technology. It does not diagnose migraines, neurological disorders, food allergies, nutrient deficiencies, mold illness or the medical cause of a headache.

AO Scan reports may offer educational information that helps a user notice patterns and prepare more thoughtful questions for an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

What is AO Scan Inner Voice?

Inner Voice is an AO Scan wellness module that analyzes elements of a short voice recording and creates an educational emotional-frequency report with personalized balancing tones.

It is not a psychiatric assessment, medical diagnosis or treatment.

Can frequency tools replace migraine medication?

No. Do not stop, replace or change medication based on an AO Scan result or a wellness recommendation.

Medication decisions should be made with the licensed healthcare professional who understands your medical history, symptoms and current treatment plan.

Final Thoughts

Recurring headaches deserve more than assumptions.

Sometimes the most useful first step is not immediately deciding what the symptom means. It is slowing down long enough to document what is happening around it.

What changed?

What keeps repeating?

What factors appear together?

What does your healthcare professional need to know?

What additional educational information could help you ask a better question?

Nadya Lutz reminded us that wellness investigation is rarely about one isolated clue. It is about remaining curious enough to follow the thread—while staying grounded enough to know when medical evaluation must come first.
