How Do You Set an Intention With a Crystal?

Choose a crystal that feels meaningful to you, identify the quality or goal you want to focus on, and state your intention clearly. Hold, wear or place the crystal where you will see it regularly, then pair that intention with thoughtful action in your daily life.

How Do You Set an Intention With a Crystal?

To set an intention with a crystal, begin by choosing a stone that feels meaningful to you. Decide what you want the crystal to remind you of—perhaps peace, love, protection, forgiveness, confidence or clarity. State the intention clearly, then hold, wear or place the crystal somewhere you will encounter it regularly.

The crystal can become a tangible reminder to return your attention to that intention and take actions that support it.

That simple idea sits at the heart of Solex Podcast Season 2, Episode 3: “Crystals, Intention, and Calling Your Light Back.”

In this warm, funny, and surprisingly emotional conversation, traditional naturopath Nadya Lutz shares her lifelong attraction to crystals, her personal methods for choosing and caring for them, and the ways she incorporates intention, frequency, and AO Scan tools into her wellness practices.

Most importantly, the episode moves beyond the usual lists of crystal meanings. It explores what can happen when we give too much of ourselves away—and how we might begin calling our light back.

Meet Nadya Lutz

Nadya introduces herself as a traditional naturopath who loves exploring energy and frequency. She also makes it clear that she does not consider herself the final authority on crystals. Instead, she speaks from personal experience, curiosity and years of interacting with the stones that have drawn her attention.

Her story with crystals began as a child during a family road trip. She convinced her parents to buy her a clear quartz crystal, took it to school for show-and-tell, and proudly announced that it was a diamond.

That childhood fascination never truly left.

Today, Nadia often visits crystal stores while traveling. She describes the experience as grounding and says that walking into a crystal shop after getting off an airplane can help her feel as though her nervous system is resetting.

What Makes a Crystal More Than Something Pretty?

Crystals can be beautiful décor. They can be jewelry. They can sit on a shelf for years without receiving much attention.

So, what turns a crystal into a meaningful personal tool?

For Nadya, the answer is intention.

During the podcast, she explains that a crystal can become a physical point of focus for what someone wants to cultivate. A person might hold rose quartz while focusing on love and forgiveness, wear amethyst as a reminder to return to calm, or keep clear quartz nearby while reflecting on a particular goal.

The crystal itself becomes a cue.

Every time you see it, touch it or hold it, you are reminded of the thought, emotion or action you chose to associate with it.

The hosts compare this to connecting music to a Bluetooth speaker. The speaker does not create the original song, but it can help amplify and distribute it. In the same way, the podcast describes crystals as tools people may use to focus or amplify a chosen intention.

The Physical Science of Quartz

There is real mineral science behind quartz.

Quartz is composed of silicon dioxide and is a piezoelectric material. Under specific mechanical conditions, it can generate an electrical charge. Its stable oscillating properties are one reason quartz is used in clocks, sensors, communications equipment, and other technologies.

However, those measurable physical properties do not prove that crystals diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions. Scientific research has not established crystal healing as a medical treatment beyond effects associated with expectation, suggestion, ritual or the personal meaning someone assigns to the experience.

Both ideas can be held honestly at the same time:

Crystals have measurable mineral properties, and people may also choose to give them personal, emotional or spiritual meaning.

Throughout this recap, references to love, protection, peace, abundance or clearing reflect traditional associations and the personal experiences shared during the podcast. They should not be interpreted as guaranteed health outcomes.

What Does “Calling Your Light Back” Mean?

The most powerful part of this episode is not about which crystal to purchase.

It is about recognizing how much of ourselves we may leave behind.

Nadya explains that caregivers, healers, practitioners, empaths, parents, and deeply compassionate people often pour enormous amounts of attention and emotional energy into others.

Sometimes we do this willingly. We want to help. We want to comfort someone. We want to fix the problem, carry the burden or make the pain disappear.

Yet after an intense interaction, we may feel depleted, distracted or emotionally scattered.

Nadya refers to this as giving away pieces of your light.

At the end of the day, she recommends pausing and asking whether you feel fully present within yourself. When the answer feels like no, she practices intentionally “calling back” the parts of her attention and emotional energy that may still feel attached to people, situations or experiences.

This does not mean withdrawing love from anyone.

It means remembering that compassion does not require permanent depletion.

You can care deeply for another person while also restoring your own emotional boundaries.

Nadya’s Story of Grief and Emotional Depletion

Nadia’s explanation becomes especially meaningful when she describes the death of her mother.

She was present during an intensely traumatic experience that included attempting CPR and spending time at the hospital. Afterward, she understandably experienced profound grief. However, she also felt unable to move out of what she described as a deep emotional funk.

Eventually, Nadya began considering how completely she had poured herself into that experience.

She felt as though she had given away an enormous amount of her light while trying to help her mother. Calling that light back did not erase her grief or diminish her love. Instead, she says it helped her feel more able to move through the grieving process.

That distinction matters.

Calling your light back is not about pretending that something painful did not happen. It is not about bypassing grief, anger or sadness.

It is about allowing yourself to remain whole while processing them.

A crystal may become part of that practice—not because it replaces counseling, medical care, spiritual support or time, but because it gives you something tangible to hold while you choose to return to yourself.

A Simple “Calling Your Light Back” Practice

This reflective practice can be used with or without a crystal.

Sit somewhere quiet and take several slow breaths. Notice where your mind keeps traveling. Is it returning to a difficult conversation, a client, a family member, a loss or a situation you cannot control?

Then say something similar to:

“I lovingly call my attention, energy and light back to me. I release what is not mine to carry, and I allow others to keep the love and kindness I gave freely.”

Hold your crystal as a physical reminder of that intention.

Next, place your attention on your body. Notice your breathing, shoulders, hands, jaw and feet. Let yourself become present in the room again.

Finally, choose one action that supports your well-being. Drink water, step outside, journal, pray, rest, walk, ask for help or create a healthier boundary.

The purpose is not to perform the words perfectly. The purpose is to notice where you feel emotionally extended and gently return your awareness to the present.

How Should a Beginner Choose a Crystal?

Nadia does not recommend that every beginner purchase the same three crystals.

Instead, she suggests visiting a reputable crystal store and noticing what naturally attracts your attention.

Walk around without immediately reading every label. Look at the colors, shapes and textures. Pick up different pieces when permitted. Notice whether you feel curious, peaceful, energized or simply drawn to one particular stone.

Nadia explains that she may hold many pieces of the same type of crystal before finding the individual one that feels right to her.

Her approach is intentionally personal:

Choose the crystal first. Research its traditional meaning afterward.

This helps prevent a person from deciding in advance that they must buy a particular stone simply because a list online told them to.

Of course, practical considerations still matter. Purchase from a reputable seller, learn where the crystal came from when possible and stay within a comfortable budget. A meaningful crystal does not need to be enormous or expensive.

A Beginner Crystal-Intention Ritual

Once you have chosen a crystal, try this uncomplicated practice:

1. Learn About Your Crystal

Identify the mineral and research whether it requires any special handling. Some minerals are fragile, water-sensitive or affected by prolonged sunlight.

2. Clean It Appropriately

Gently wipe or rinse the crystal only when you know water is safe for that particular mineral. Other options may include placing it near sound, moonlight or another personal ritual that feels meaningful to you.

3. Choose One Intention

Keep the intention simple and specific.

Examples include:

  • I choose to communicate calmly.
  • I am ready to move forward.
  • I welcome more love into my decisions.
  • I protect my time without closing my heart.
  • I return my attention to what I can control.
  • I am willing to forgive without excusing what happened.

4. State the Intention

Say it aloud, write it in a journal or repeat it silently while holding the crystal.

5. Give the Crystal a Place in Your Life

Wear it, carry it, place it on your desk or keep it near a journal. Choose a location where you will interact with it rather than forgetting it on a shelf.

6. Pair the Intention With Action

A crystal cannot set a boundary, make a phone call, apologize, complete a project or schedule an appointment for you.

Use it as a reminder to take the next meaningful step.

Do Crystals Need to Be Cleansed?

In the episode, Nadia discusses clearing crystals when she first brings them home and periodically clearing jewelry or stones she uses regularly.

She describes using the AO Scan or SEFI Star Energy Clear option as part of her personal routine. She also discusses moonlight, sunlight and washing certain stones. However, she cautions that not every crystal should be placed in water because some may deteriorate or partially dissolve.

Before using water, salt or prolonged sunlight, identify the crystal and research its physical properties.

Never create drinking water by placing an unidentified mineral directly into it. Some stones may contain metals or other substances that should not be ingested.

A safe and simple method is often best: gently wipe the crystal with a soft cloth and use intention, sound or another non-contact ritual.

Crystals Discussed in the Episode

Several crystals appear throughout the conversation.

Clear Quartz

Nadia describes clear quartz as a versatile stone associated with clearing and amplifying intention. In the episode, it becomes the “blank slate” that may be paired with different personal goals.

Amethyst

Amethyst is associated in the conversation with peace, calm and reflection. One of the hosts describes feeling an immediate release of tension while holding a particular amethyst, despite not previously feeling strongly drawn to that type of crystal.

Rose Quartz

Rose quartz is discussed in connection with love, forgiveness, self-compassion and moving forward after emotional pain.

One memorable lesson from the episode is that forgiving a person does not mean approving of what they did. Forgiveness may instead be a way of releasing the ongoing burden from your own life.

Black Tourmaline

Black tourmaline is traditionally associated with protection and personal boundaries. The host shares that she placed one in her husband’s flight bag with the intention of safety while he traveled.

Selenite

Selenite is discussed as a stone traditionally associated with clearing. It is also one of the minerals that should not be routinely soaked in water because it can be physically damaged.

Citrine

Citrine is connected with success, abundance, prosperity and forward-moving energy. Nadia discusses placing citrine around a SEFI Star when focusing on intentions related to business growth or success.

Fluorite

Fluorite is associated in the episode with clarity, order, acceptance and surrendering to what is.

That does not mean giving up. Instead, it means acknowledging where you are now so that you can make a conscious decision about where to go next.

Lemurian Seed Crystal

A Lemurian seed crystal plays a central role in Nadia’s most personal story.

The Crystal That “Called” to Nadya

After Nadya’s mother died, she attended a private healing and sound session near the beach.

During the session, the practitioner unexpectedly stopped, left the room and returned carrying a large Lemurian seed crystal. Nadya was instructed to hold it in her left hand while the session continued.

She describes feeling an intense electrical or tingling sensation through her body.

After the session, the practitioner told Nadya that the crystal had come with a message: Nadya needed to share it with the world and was meant to teach thousands of people.

The crystal was extremely important to the practitioner, yet she allowed Nadya to borrow it for several weeks. A staff member later told Nadya that she had never seen the practitioner lend that crystal to anyone.

Years later, Nadya connected that experience with the people she has taught, the practice she has developed and her work within the Solex community.

Whether someone interprets that story spiritually, symbolically or psychologically, its meaning to Nadya is clear.

It helped her recognize a larger purpose at a time when grief had made her feel disconnected from it.

How AO Scan and SEFI Can Be Used With Crystals

The episode also explores how some AO Scan users incorporate crystals, jewelry, water, or other items into their personal frequency routines.

*AO Scan Global’s Paige Maurer Wheeler works a lot with crystal selection and talks about that in this earlier blog about Crystals and the AO Scan.

Nadya describes placing a crystal on the AO Scan fractal amplifier or in the center of a SEFI Star while selecting an intention or frequency playlist. She compares a pointed crystal or tower to an additional amplifier that may help direct the ritual’s focus.

She also describes placing jewelry on the system, using the Erase or Energy Clear selection, and then choosing a new intention such as peace, gratitude, abundance or forgiveness.

Within this practice, the crystal or piece of jewelry becomes a portable reminder of the selected intention.

The Most Important Lesson From This Episode

You do not need the biggest crystal.

You do not need the most expensive collection.

You do not need to memorize the traditional meaning of every stone before walking into a crystal store.

Instead, begin with awareness.

What are you carrying?

Where is your attention going?

What would you like to cultivate?

What are you ready to release?

A crystal may become a beautiful, tangible reminder of your answer.

However, the intention, reflection and action still come from you.

Perhaps that is what calling your light back truly means: remembering that you can love others, support others and serve others without abandoning yourself in the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you set an intention with a crystal?

Choose a crystal that feels meaningful to you and decide what you want it to represent. State the intention clearly, hold or wear the crystal regularly and pair the intention with a practical action. The crystal can serve as a physical reminder of the mindset or behavior you want to cultivate.

Do crystals need to be cleansed before use?

Many people choose to clean or ritually clear a crystal before using it. First, identify the mineral because not all crystals are safe to place in water, salt or prolonged sunlight. A soft cloth, sound, intention or another non-contact practice may be a safer option.

Can AO Scan or SEFI be used with crystals and jewelry?

Some AO Scan users place crystals or jewelry on the fractal amplifier or SEFI Star while selecting educational frequency playlists or personal intentions. These practices are intended for personal exploration and wellness education. AO Scan is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat disease.
